    Stan Marshall

Year of induction:  2000
Bio:

The careers of three generations of advertising and marketing professionals in Pittsburgh, and indeed around the globe, have been influenced by Stan Marshall. It seems he was born to be a teacher and mentor.

Many members and friends of the Pittsburgh Advertising Club remember Stan when he was president, CEO and a director of Lando Inc., and as a senior vice president and regional manager of Marsteller, Inc.

Stan has pioneered strategic planning techniques for companies and institutions. And he is still a huge influence in planning today. He is still putting in a full day at the office as president of Stanley C. Marshall Inc., a firm specializing in strategic planning – management, marketing, sales and communications. He has focused attention in recent years on the need for accountability, the importance of “positioning” methods for increasing marketing effectiveness and on Input/Output economics. He lectures and leads discussions on these subjects for the U.S. Department of Commerce, the American Management Association, the Association of National Advertisers, the Business & Professional Advertisers Association, the U.S. Committee for UNICEF, and various Chambers of Commerce both in the U.S. and abroad.

He is the ultimate networker. He works constantly to bring together business people and government decision makers, academics with art organizations, scientists with venture capitalists to name but a few. Now he is taking the concept one step further. He’s networked 30 of the region’s outstanding entrepreneurs into a group called NIBS. He’s brought together creative giants, researchers, government planners, and trainers, experts in black and women’s affairs, and promoters networking and attacking problems such as pancreatic cancer. It took Stan to bring together such diverse people to support each other in an interesting group that will be available to help all of us in the years to come.

Stan Marshall has never stopped teaching. He is an adjunct professor for the Katz Graduate School of Business, University of Pittsburgh, and has lectured at other major universities in the United States and the U.K. He has taught at the International Management Center in Budapest, Hungary, has helped Czech companies operate in a market economy for the USIA and has taught MBA faculties in Poland.

Stan has been a leader in the civic and charitable world of Pittsburgh as well as internationally. Civic projects that he supervised won Freedom Foundation Awards four years in succession.

Born in New York City, Stan graduated from Bucknell University with a degree in electrical engineering. The world of engineering received a sad blow when Stan turned his focus to advertising and marketing. But thank goodness for all of us that he did. Congratulations Stan, on being elected into the Pittsburgh Advertising Hall of Fame.
